Jeera Rice

Ingredients

  • Basmati rice – 1 cup
  • Ghee or refined oil – 1 tablespoon
  • Water  – 6 cups
  • Bayleaf – 1
  • Cloves – 2
  • Cinnamon stick – 1-inch piece
  • Finely chopped green chilli – 1
  • Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
  • Chopped coriander – 2 tablespoons (For garnishing)
  • Salt – ¾ teaspoon

Method

1. Wash the basmati rice and soak it in four cups of water for 30 minutes such that it is completely submerged.

2. Drain all the water and keep the rice aside.

3. Heat ghee in a pot.

4. Add cumin seeds and the whole spices.

5. When the seeds start spluttering, add the chopped green chilli and the rice.

6. Cook the rice on a medium flame for 2 minutes.

7. Add two cups of water and salt.

8. Mix well.

9. Bring the rice to a boil.

10. Then cover and simmer for approximately six minutes.

11. Make sure that the water has evaporated.

12. Turn off the flame.

13. Let the rice rest for 5 minutes.

14. Garnish with chopped coriander.

15. Serve hot.
