Banana Vada

Ingredients

  • Banana – 500 grams
  • Poha – 100 grams
  • Peas – 100 grams
  • Urad dal – 1 teaspoon
  • Chana dal flour – 2 cups
  • Lemon juice – ½ tablespoon
  • Coriander leaves – 1 cup
  • Salt – 1 tablespoon
  • Sugar – 1 tablespoon
  • Red chilli powder – 2 tablespoons
  • Green chilli paste – 3 tablespoons
  • Garam masala – 2 teaspoons
  • Mustard seeds – 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder – ½ teaspoon
  • Oil – For frying
  • A few curry leaves

Method

1. Boil the banana and peas in a pressure cooker.

2. Peel the banana.

3. Mash it with peas.

4. Soak the poha in water for ½ hour.

5. Heat oil in a frying pan.

6. Sauté urad dal.

7. When the dal turns red, add mustard seeds.

8. As the seeds start crackling, add turmeric powder, curry leaves, and chilli paste.

9. Mix well.

10. Add this mixture to the mashed banana-pea mixture.

11. Mix lemon juice, garam masala, coriander leaves, sugar, and salt.

12. Divide the whole mixture into equal-sized portions.

13. Sift the chana dal flour.

14. Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, and salt.

15. Mix water to form a batter.

16. Dip the banana mixture into the batter.

17. Fry in oil.

18. Serve with chutney.
