Grilled Dhokla

Ingredients

  • Buttermilk – 2 cups
  • Urad dal – 1 cup
  • Rice – 3 cups
  • Green chilli paste – 2 tablespoons
  • Oil – 2 tablespoons
  • Baking soda – ½ teaspoon
  • Salt – To taste
  • For sandwich:
    • Coconut-cilantro chutney – ½ cup
    • Sliced cucumber – 1
    • Sliced tomato – 2
    • Butter

Method

1. Wash the rice.

2. Then, dry it on a cloth.

3. Mix the dried rice with urad dal.

4. Grind the mixture in the grinder till it is a bit granular (like rava).

5. Heat the buttermilk in a pot.

6. Add salt and the flour mixture, while stirring.

7. Cover the pot and keep it aside for 6–8 hours.

8. Beat the flour.

9. Add green chilli paste.

10. Add soda and oil.

11. Beat again.

12. Boil water in a pot.

13. Insert a trivet.

14. Grease a plate.

15. Pour the batter on it.

16. Leave the plate in the pot.

17. Steam for 5–7 minutes.

18. Take out and cool down the dhokla.

19. Cut it into bread-size pieces.

20. Apply butter on each dhokla slice.

21. Spread chutney and sauce on it.

22. Arrange tomato and cucumber slices.

23. Cover with another dhokla slice.

24. Prepare all sandwiches this way.

25. Grill in a sandwich toaster.

26. Serve immediately with tomato sauce.
